Manila Diaries: From Mishaps to Magic
This week, we’ve been soaking up the vibrant energy of Manila, Philippines!
Our trip began with a bit of a hiccup. Arriving late at night, we discovered our Airbnb came with some uninvited roommates—cockroaches! And not just a few; it was a level of infestation that I’ll never forget. After documenting the situation with photos and contacting AirBNB, we quickly made our exit.
Thankfully, it was a blessing in disguise. I managed to find a fantastic hotel that not only accommodated us for a few nights but was also situated in a much better area. The real adventure, however, was securing a place for New Year’s Eve. Picture trying to find an open hotel room in New York City on NYE—it was just like that! Against all odds, we scored a room at the Sheraton Manila Bay, a five-star gem.
The best part? Our booking came with tickets to the Sheraton’s New Year’s Eve celebration, and it was amazing. We enjoyed a delicious gourmet dinner, joined a lively rooftop countdown with incredible views of the city, and watched the most stunning fireworks display I’ve ever seen light up the Manila skyline. It was truly unforgettable!
All of this for just $300 USD! It felt like an incredible deal for such a memorable night. The fireworks were truly the highlight—lighting up the entire city in a dazzling, non-stop display that took our breath away. It wasn’t just a show; it felt like the entire city was celebrating together, and the energy was absolutely contagious. It was an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience that left us feeling so lucky to have started the year in such a spectacular way.
